The month of May saw us participate in our fifth annual 8Street trip. Five years has passed so quickly – our collective has grown as a group (both by numbers and the quality of our imagery), and street photography has continued to be a huge source of inspiration and the perfect opportunity for us to channel our collective sense of adventure. In addition to our annual trip, many of our collective have made their own individual journeys across the globe, exploring Colombia, Sri Lanka, Cuba, New York, India and more.
This year, due to various circumstances (including a last minute A+E trip on the eve of the flight for one ‘lucky’ 8Streeter) only seven of our group headed to Rome. However this truly beautiful city – home of good wine, excellent food, historic architecture and gorgeous light – more than made up for our limited numbers. This was our first pre-wedding season trip, moving away from our usual October journey, so that we were fully energised for the upcoming year.
Most of us arrived on the Sunday, and camped at a bar in town for the afternoon / evening, catching up, rather than shooting. A few cocktails may have been consumed, and the next day may have been spent in bed with the shutters closed for some. But once recovered, we hit the streets hard each day. Alexis, fluent in no less than 47 different languages, ensured we were well fed and supplied with wine for our evening photography rambles.
Here are our favourite images from three sunny days in Rome.
